Oil Painting Basics for
Spring 2024
In this 12-week course, Randy teaches students sufficient skills to begin a lifelong journey with fine art oil painting. He gives instruction regarding the selection and safe use of oil painting materials: assorted tube colors & their pigments, thinners/solvents, brushes, and multiple painting surfaces. His experience with these materials instructs: the best way to choose appropriate color, mix paint according to differing mediums, how each medium affects paint attributes, and how to work with those variations. Using several class painting projects, Randy helps students experiment with multiple application techniques to produce realistic image results. He helps you to see our world with a painter’s eye so that your paintings have 3-dimensional, lifelike qualities.
After the completion of Oil Painting Basics, students can then progress into Oil Painting Open Studio Instruction. Students paint from their own source images, in-studio still lifes, or other suitable material having the teacher available for guidance.

Oil Painting Open Studio Instruction
In this course, students who have completed Oil Painting Basics (or with permission of the instructor), paint from their own source material with the teacher’s guidance. Students produce completed oil paintings with the benefit of in-studio observations and critiques, where Randy assists the artist to see possible areas where slight modifications can be helpful to create a better image.
Class fee: $150 monthly
Day-time & Evening Classes:
Mondays, 5:30 p.m.–8:30 p.m.
Tuesdays, 10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
Wednesdays, 1:30 p.m.–4:30 p.m.
