Oil Painting Basics for Spring 2020

In these basic courses, Randy teaches students sufficient skills to begin a lifelong journey with fine art oil painting. He gives instruction regarding the selection and safe use of oil painting materials: assorted tube colors & their pigments, thinners/solvents, brushes, and multiple painting surfaces. His experience with these materials instructs: the best way to choose appropriate color, mix paint according to differing mediums, how each medium affects paint attributes, and how to work with those variations. Using several class painting projects, Randy helps students experiment with multiple application techniques to produce realistic image results. He helps you to see our world with a painter’s eye so that your paintings have 3-dimensional, lifelike qualities.

A very unique class is available, custom-crafted to fit the scheduling needs of youth attending middle grades and high school. Targeting ages from 12–18, this specialized Youth Class is designed to fit between regular school hours and the evening meal, with two-hour teaching segments spread over more weeks.

After the completion of Oil Painting Basics, students can then progress into Oil Painting Open Studio Instruction. Students paint from their own source images, in-studio still lifes, or other suitable material having the teacher available for guidance.
